Thomas Frederick Barrett was born in 1939 in Miami, Florida. Fred's high school art grades were less than stellar. The experience didn't sour his love of art, however, and he later got an entry-level job with the premier commercial art studio in the country. He worked his way up the ladder before leaving to become art director for PanAmerican Advertising Agency. Then he opened his own commercial art agency, which he ran for 28 years before deciding it was time to re-invent himself again. He then dedicated himself to the fine art of painting and sculture mediums. His efforts brought forth his unique style.
His paintings are born in the deliberate spontaneity of bold strokes with a pallet knife. Fred combines colors, pushes them around on the canvas a bit and he says, "something quite interesting happens". From there the process is like playing chess with the painting. The artist's every move is in response to a constanly shifting sense of balance, color and form. With his unique paintins he expresses solid suggestions of the everyday world. In the end, a richly hues rhythmically vibrant landscape or still life emerges.
Fred and his wife, Gisele, whi is an accomplished artist in he own right, enjoy painting in a shared studio overlooking a beautiful expanse of woods and water located in the North Geogia Mountains. Their bearded collies, Dickens and Kailie as well as a cat named Oliver share the surroundings.
