Petra was born in Eindhoven, Netherlands. She joined Agaat Blumenthal as an apprentice potter in Aalst-Waalre. During the time of this four-year learning she also took courses in sculpting and color design at the Academie voor Industriele Vormgeving (Academy for Industrial Design) in Eindhoven. Thereupon, for two years, her work experience was broadened at the Steinlin Werkstätte in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
After emigration to the United States in 1968 she was accepted in the Cooperative of the Wallingford Potters Guild in Wallingford, PA. In 1975 Petra and her husband moved to Georgia, and she launched her own studio, the Blue Tulip Pottery. In the Atlanta area she exhibited for many years in various galleries and at the Atlanta Arts Festival. She co-founded the Passages Buford artist colony.
Petra moved to Clayton, GA, where she re-established her studio in 2003.
