Tom initially studied art with Art Instruction Schools of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and then earned a commercial art degree with Lake Sumter Community College. He has worked as an artist in the sign and scenic department of Walt Disney World, Florida, as well as for Sea World Florida.

Tom then moved to Toccoa, Georgia in the early nineties to study at Toccoa Falls College. In Toccoa, Tom worked as an artist for Habersham Furnishings. He is currently self-employed as an artist doing freelance design, murals, and a variety of other art forms.
